Oil pump failure....

This how you know just how bad it was...

the TPO magnetic drain plug is said to have the strongest magnet on the market..

...and then yesterdays work...stripped her down in preparation for the case splitting as well as the frame modification and color change...

Glad I assumed the worst...

Bought another crank, rods and bearings then sent it the Ben Fox Performance for knife edge, polish and balance.

Bead blasted the heads and recoated them with heat dispersing paint..after the 1080 big bore and replating.

..and of course the FBF 1080 pistons.

Also got the last set of Ducati Performance cams for the ds1000 that Ducati had in Italy. Lightened flywheel and adjustable aluminum TB pulleys. I certainly am not enjoying the money missing from my bank account, but I might as well do what I'm doing seeing as the labor has to be done anyway.

I'm glad its December in Ohio and I'm not missing too much good riding!

I understand the money issue but you're doing it right by having the work done since it's going to be all apart anyway

So what are the details on the oil pump? Very curious about this situation!

Nice work, especially that crank.

So what happened to the oil pump? Would like to hear more about that.

Oil pump failure...

1) How many miles on the engine? How was it run (very hard/moderate/easy?)

2) What type of oil did you use? What was the oil change interval?

3) Over rev of some sort? Any idea why it failed?

Best Wishes in the build, looks to be a beast...

We don't know what happened just yet. As soon as I get the cases split, I hope to have some carved in stone answers. What I can say, I rode the bike for about 2000 miles after I bought it with no issues at all. The bike had 18K on it when I bought her but I knew all the services were done and 3k oil changes with mobile one since inception.

The "light" noise started on a normal run on the Dyno when we were tuning her for the exhaust.

updates to come...

Are you doing the work, or are you having someone do it for you? If so who?
