SC 06 broke down ...
Hi there ,
I have a 06 sport classic with 1200 miles on the clock .
Put the bike away 3 weeks ago , connected it to the battery charger ( battery was changed this year ) , and tried to start it today .
Had the gauges coming on as normal , and when pushing the starter button nothing happened ; only the yellow engine light came on and I just hear a loud "click" . Bike is in neutral ; lights are working fine .
I read about the voltage regulator problems . Is this related to this ?
I have never had a problem with the bike before and it was running fine until the last minute I put it in the garage .
Thanks for your replies guys
Cheers , Harald

Sounds like your battery is bad/dead. Voltage regulator does nothing if the bike isn't running

Kill switch is in the OK position .
Battery sounds strange , as this was replaced some 6 months ago by a new one .

Check the voltage of the battery. Needs to be more than 12v...close to 13v I believe. Bike in neutral, kick-stand down.

Ditto on the battery being the problem, check connections.

Ok I'll disconnect the battery form the charger this evening , and see what the voltage does after a few hours .
Still does sound strange to me as the battery was changed recently and I keep it on charge by a battery conditioner/charging system in between rides .
Cheers , Harald

Easy checks:
Check voltage.
Get on bike. Kick-Stand Up. Click into 1st; then back to neutral. Pull the clutch in. Toggle the Kill Switch Off/On. Try to start.
That should take the kick-stand switch and false neutral out of the equation.
Not as easy check.
One of the connections to the new battery might be loose. Check/Clean/Tigten the battery terminals. Check/Clean/Tighten the connection to the starter coil.
Missing something here...

Sounds like a battery connection. Could also be the connection to the starter, but I doubt it.

Not to scare you, but I had this problem on and off for the first 4 years I had my bike! Tried everything, would work for a week...a month...longer then go again! Eventually we traced it to corrosion in the wiring loom, on the live feed no less!!!!
The normal cause I believe is a bad earth, but worth checking the live circuit as well. My problem was that I used the bike in winter a couple of times and the salt here seems to have got into all the wiring, everything is so exposed on these bike! After cutting back and using good quality cables, fixings and sealing it all I've had not problems since!
