Nagging problem with the check engine light
Hoping spomeone on here might have some insight on this engine light on my '07 GT1000. I've had it since new, and it has almost always had this problem. Runs great.
On my first track day...a couple years ago now, I got a check engine light for half a lap that went off later that day.
It would later come on sometimes, and be off most of the time.
Then I got a VDST so I could read and reset trouble codes (among other things)...the most often code that comes up is "coil #1 open circuit".
For the last 10,000 or so miles the light is on for the durration of about half the rides I do (100 - 400 miles per ride). Sometimes it flickers.
At my most recent service (60,852 miles) the codes are "coil#1 open circuit, coil #2 open circuit, & signal below threshhold". If I clear them they just come back on. A ride earlier today, no light. Next ride the light is on the whole time.
The bike has run near perfect the entire 60,000+ miles I've had it. Ducati Performance ECU /Termignoni kit since new. I replaced the coils with a slightly used set recently, no change. Running a Power Commander III for the last 30,000 miles or so. Ducshop intake kit. Iridium spark plugs. Checked the spacing on the ignition pickup sensor. Jiggled connections. Temperature does not seem to affect it, and I've ridden many miles in temps as low as 24F to 118F. Stumped. The bike runs fine, but this light is a little nagging thing in the back of my mind. Any ideas to chase down on this?

Sounds like a faulty/intermittent sensor. Could also be abad splice in the loom- I was shocked at how poorly my loom was made, wires literally pulled apart in my hands as i was un-wrapping the tape. when I did build 43 I started from scratch because I couldn't trust the OEM one I had on hand.

I had a similar problem on my GT. The light began coming on and off intermittently, and eventually was almost always on. Diagnostic indicated it was a sensor behind the headlight/instrument panel (barometric pressure sensor, IIRC). Anyway, replacing it didn't fix it, so my mechanic traced the wire back through the loom. Sure enough, the wire was damaged right at the point were the wiring loom rubs against the frame, just aft of the headstock. Repairing the wire fixed the problem.

D, let me know if it's the loom and if so, what section. (you'll need to be specific because it's a confusing mess...)
I purchased en entire loom once to get the TPS connector and part of the loom attached to it, (as mine was rusted, probably from the Arizona mud bath in 2009...) but the rest is in a box in my garage for the next hiccup.
Happy to sort you out if you need it.

Thanks guys. It seems to run fine and always has...Someday I will tear it down I suppose and find the problem. Was kind of hoping someone had the same error codes I have and found the specific problem so I would have one or two wires to chase and not the whole loom! I have certainly fixed a couple other "sliced from the factory" wires since I've had the bike though.

I'm hoping that somebody could give me some idea about the engine light issue with my 06 SC. I got stranded last week because of a fuel hose clamp came loose, got towed to the dealer, and the problem was fixed. The bike was running fine till this morning when the engine came on. I hooked up the VDST, and got a code problem message but the code itself is BLANK!! Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is fixed. It was a loose ground wire to the ECU.

The previous owner of my GT had the FatDuc race line clipped into the ECU. That was causing my engine light to turn on and off intermittently. I just took it off (as of Friday) and I have yet to see the light come back on.
So, maybe ECU?
I have questions about the FatDuc actually, but that's a future post.
