Sh*t!! Dropped something in my GT's tank!
I was adding some Sta-bil after a fill up, and the little silver seal that was over the mouth of the Sta-bil bottle fell in the tank. I think it was up in the cap and dropped out when I took the cap off just prior to pouring the Sta-bil in.
The seal dropped to the back of the tank so I tried to fish it out, but no luck. I lost sight of it and am pretty sure it dropped down the hole at the back.
I'm calling the Duc shop about it tomorrow, but wanted to see if any wise ones here could offer their prognosis.
P.S. I did take it in last weekend to see about getting the tank replaced and am waiting to hear back. I'm obviously wanting a new one even more now, but am hoping I can at least ride the 20-some miles to the dealer to make the swap.

I don't see how it could be a problem to ride the bike 20 miles to the shop to get the tank replaced with that piece of foil in the tank.

I have since over a year now a plastic valve from a siphon hose in a Hypermotard tank, no problems , I hope it floats to the top one day while filling the tank so I can fish it out.

Jack - hope you're right. I'm just worried it could get lodged in the fuel line and plug things up.

Won't happen as there's a filter on the intake:

When I bought my GT a year ago the dealer ordered a new tank for me because the one on the showroom floor had "already" spread. So before I even put gas in it I sent it out to get coated.
Anyway, point is I took the tank off at home to go get it swapped. It's not hard at all. Siphon out all the fuel you can, unbolt the tank, put a 2 X 4 under it to hold it up for a bit and a towel under the tank, pull the hoses, wait until remaining fuel spills out (not much) and remove the tank.
If you're lucky, the foil piece will come out in the siphon tube and you won't have to proceed further.

Just attach a small rubber hose to a shop vac and fish around till you find it,just empty the tank first.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just spoke with Ducati Austin's service manager, and he gave me the great news that a new tank was approved and ordered for me, and that I don't have anything to worry about in the meantime as the little seal couldn't block fuel delivery to any noticeable degree.
I appreciate the tips on getting stuff out in the event something stupid like that happens again though. I know if I wasn't getting a new tank I would've still wanted to get the thing out even if it didn't pose a hazard, just to eliminate any niggling concern I'd have about it.

I don’t think that I would stick an electric vacuum down a gas tank, with the fumes being pulled past the vacuums motor and all. JMHO.

That is good news. Unless you have access to non-ethanol gas, I'd recommend doing what I did when I got a replacement tank; have it coated before a drop of gas goes into the tank, with the Caswell product. You'll be happy you did. Should cost about $200.
