Chopping off the battery Supports?
Has anyone relocated their battery and then removed the two stubby frame extensions that the base of the battery box pivots on?
If so, any advice or pitfalls (apart from "don't do it")?
Thanks

I'd wait until your battery saga ends and then cut and grind those puppies off.

L D,
A while back a guy connected the two sides together with a split tube (of carbon fiber?) to complete the missing center section, he posted a thread on it. That is what I will do as to not permanently eliminate the possibility of running a lead battery.
I am pulling my battery box to install a Shori battery in a custom tray, like Hoppy did here:
Slipper Clutch & LiFePo4 Battery
The battery:
Shorai LiFePO4 Battery LFX14A2-BS12
4.45”L x 3.60”H x 2.28”D Weight - 1.27 lb.
Cheers,

Well, yes, that goes without saying... I expect to get a replacement single-unit by the end of the week. I'm praying that this time it'll be plug n play. As promised.

That's a good idea. I don't mind the idea of a complete cross-piece in the subframe, but two stubs just looks weird. I'll see what the options are.
I like what Hoppy did - but I must phone him and ask why he ditched the RB400.

LD,
I haven't ditched the battery. I've been using the RB400010 since May, with no problems.

I'm interested in the "connect the two with a carbon fiber tube" thing.. does anyone have a source for the tube?
I remember a couple of years ago when people were swapping to LiFePO packs at least one person (toobs?) chopped the battery mounts off and repainted the frame. It really cleaned things up visually, but it is permanent.

Here's one possible source for some CF tubing. Tapered and straight wrapped carbon tubes

+1 cut mine off some grinding and file work. I left the bosses for the threaded pannel nuts on then mounted my license plate there with a super simple alloy plate. Might not be legal, but havnt been stopped yet.

LD > Lopped them offa my SC.
No problem removing what are short sections of tube. Removed them with cut off wheel on die grinder and then cleaned up the downtubes with scotchbite pad on angle grinder. Off to the Powder Coater& you would never know they were there
Like 848 I left the tabs so I could mount my plate . I also fabbed up a piece of stainless to protect the engine for the salt at Bonneville . It's attached to the plastic tray from below & fastened to the mount where the RR used to be under the seat. I was gonna remove the plate after Bonneville but it kinda grew on me so I left it. Welded some tabs to it and an led strip to lite the plate .

Got rid of the big Yuasa and replaced it with an Odyssey ( http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc310.htm ) . Its 3 lbs lighter than the Yuasa and a lot shorter which allowed me enuf room to get it under the tank in a nice little stainless batt box . The pic of this setup was taken before the bike was complete so dont mind the mess . You can also see I moved my RR in the frame cradle behind the steering neck.
