Did it - 2up on '06 Sport 1000

Been awhile, folks. I really haven't had much to say until now, but I thought you all would dig this.

We all know the complaint. We love the look of the Sport, but some of us want (on occasion) to have someone riding cupcake. Well, I figured out a good solution. It's minimal, strong, and disappears when I don't want it.

Step 1: buy the 2up seat. If anyone has any idea how to get the giant "DUCATI" logo off the back, I'd REALLY like to know. Not a fan.

Step 2: Find some pegs that look close to stock. I found a good pair for $10 at a used part shop. They were still attached to the frame so they had the hardware that allowed them to click up and out of the way.

Step 3: fab a new receiver for those pegs and then figure out how to mount them to the bike. Enter Noah, my metal working bud here in Austin.

When all was said and done, we have a pretty clean looking setup.

You barely notice the pegs when they're on.

With the seat removed you can see how it attaches. Two nice, neat little tabs.

The whole piece comes off easily with four bolts.

Fully converted to solo mode. Hey, where'd those mounting brackets go?

Fricking awesome. Do want.

However, I think the stock exhaust cans would get in the way of that particular setup... yup, I guess I need an aftermarket exhaust

Dear god, man. How have you survived this long with the stockers? Must upgrade.

Oh, believe me, I want to, but none of the exhausts I like cost less than half of what I paid for the entire bike. I'm going to try and fab up a custom job this winter

I honestly do not dig it. Cupcake's knees would be upto her boobies and all that weight on top of you in the infamous "Sport Classic Torture Rack" ergos. Plus she would need to weight just as much as a pastry because that poor, single shock is NOT designed for such a payload. Oh, and don't rest your toes on that hot muffler! (Heh heh, I said "muff" )

However, I will give you big kudos for making an ingenious and unobtrusive modification. Allowing the bike to return back to its true form, nice! You did nice work, thumbs-up.

A few things.

- The wife is 4'10" and therefore totally comfy in the position we created. Trust me, we did a lot of measuring. A taller person would need lower pegs and therefore MUCH lower pipes.

- She weighs around 90lbs. soaking wet, making us only 270lbs. together. Add even a heavy backpack and we're still far under 300lbs.

- She's a size 4.5 shoe. In our riding position the only real chance of her touching a boot to that muffler is if she were to rock her heels way back over the peg which would be very difficult to do, uncomfortable, and so highly unlikely.

- Lastly, we're not touring or anything on this bike. This setup is the, "let's put around town, do some light shopping and maybe grab a beer" setup. We're not on the bike that long or for very far.

So, while I agree that your points MAY be concerns for some folks. I think we're good.
