Anyone in here only does oil change/maintenance every 6k miles?
Anyone in here only does oil change/maintenance every 6k miles?
According to a local dealer, after first 600 miles will only require servicing every 6k miles. 3k is only optional, as per dealer.
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Oil/filter change every 3k...religously. Especially since it's a wet clutch bike.

I apologize for my ignorance but I think that my 900 sport is a dry clutch, right?
Will that make a difference?

wet clutch is bathed in oil, dry clutches are not. the wet clutch causes a lot of shear friction which tends to break down oil faster. with synthetic oil and a dry clutch, 6k should be fine.

Thank you for your opinion. Would others agree to this though?

I have a '93 900SS and use 15/50 Pro4 which is fully synthetic and change it every 3000m, just to be on the safe side.

Sorry to ask for such a newbie question: Do all Ducati dealers use synthetic oil as a standard or I have to suggest that?

You're right, your 900 is a dry clutch. The 800's are wet. IMO, I'm changing my oil every 3,000 regardless. Even with a dry clutch, the engine and trans still share the oil. Keeping it fresh and clean keeps it happy. I can totally tell the difference in my 749's shifting when I change the oil. Can do that in both bikes for that matter. Did I just use "totally" in a scentence??

Why have the dealer change your oil?
FYI that 'totally' loud clanging sound you hear at idle would be your dry clutch. It the way to tell a Duc from miles away without looking. (Aftermarket fiber clutch covers are even better/louder).
You will inevitably have someone ask you what is wrong with your bike, to which you must snort and say, "This, is a Ducati." With a long pause after 'this' to add effect.
