Used ECU question

Hi all,

I have searched for an answer via forums and Google without a conclusive result so here's hoping.

My 620ss race bike ECU failed. I replaced it with a new one, problem sorted.

My question is. Can I plug in a used ECU off another bike for future diagnostic purposes. If I plug in a used ECU will it work or will it render the bike immobile and cause problems with my working ECU when re fitted.

Some say yes as the imobilizer is the clocks and key, others say it includes the ECU, even my dealer was unsure (or just did'nt want to tell me).

Guidance please.

knee down, elbow down, hospital.
