1995 900ss/sp. My First Post!
I am buying my first Ducati this Friday, and it is 1995 900SS/SP with 3800 miles on it. It has been tuned by the Fast by Ferracci shop in PA, and has many mods done to it that I can't even list until I get the bike and all the maintenance records. Anyway, this is my first post on this site. I am a post whore on the RC51 sites, so get ready to see more of me. I currently race my 2002 Honda RC51, and I wanted to get a nice collectors good riding Ducati. So I decided to get the 900 SS/SP. I know that this will be a large change between these two bikes, but i can't wait to get started. I am hoping that you guys can give me a list of the standard mods that this bike needs to really handle well, and I will make my real post this weekend once I give her a shakedown ride. Anyway, I will be talking to you guys soon. Ciao.

The 900SS is a great bike. I'm building a 98 900SS FE right now. I rode it once and took it down to the bare frame

Any last minute words of advice before I pick the bike up, like things to look for, etc?

Hi, good to have you on here. I have a 1995 Ducati 900 SuperSport SS SP that I have owned since new. I also until a few months ago had a 2001 Honda RC51. Having a second kid in October so one of the bikes had to go and although I liked the Honda I never loved it like the Ducati. It will take a little bit of time to gell with the old Supersport, it will feel crude and sloppy but once you get used to it you will be amazed just how fast they can be ridden. I am pretty happy with my bike right now although I would like a smige more power. I have put a Ohlins shock and had the forks rebuilt with Ohlins parts this year. In the past I have had hi comp. pistons, flat slide carbs and term. exhaust instaled. Some like to lower the gearing as I have done on the SS.

Check the frame around the steering head for cracks...known problem. Check the cylinder studs, they're known to break, too. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Pretty bulletproof engine.
Another good mod is to upgrade the clutch slave cylinder to a Yoyodyne unit.
I have a '95 SS SP that I bought used in '97 with 600 miles on it. It now has 25k. No major problems. I do have a small oil seepage that is likely coming from where the engine cases join. Bummer, but unless it starts actually dripping, I'm not having the engine ripped apart.
I also have a Honda...a CBR 929. As someone else mentioned, the SS SP will feel crude in comparison, more rough around the edges if you will, but it's a great bike. I love mine and I'll never get rid of it. Enjoy!

congratulations on your choice. the old school SS bikes are terrific and will afford you as legitimate a Ducati experience as any of the newer bikes. as some one said, a bit rougher, but adjustable and with relatively inexpensive mods they can be made to fly.
ditto all of the suggestions on the Nichols engine bolts and studs.
great to have you aboard.

Listen to DucatiGal--great advice. Also, give the aluminum swingarm a thorough look.

+1 on taking a look at the swingarm, mine cracked on the inside of the box section on the left side toward the front. Take a close look but it is not the end of the world if it is cracked, you can get it welded (or buy a new one for $1650 ).
