Oil leak from clutch rod (slave cover side)

I've had this oil leak for about 2K miles. I removed the side cover and resealed it, better but still leaking. Thought perhaps slave cylinder (even though I wasn't losing any fluid I would have to do constant bleeds). Put on yoyodyne and new clutch rod--now just more of a seep. The clutch rod was all grooved down due to a bad roller bearing on the other end. I guess I'm wondering if the clutch rod were spinning like a drill bit, could of it hogged out the clutch rod hole on the side cover? There is no seal or o-ring there. What's supposed to keep the oil in? Just a close tolerance of rod and side cover hole?

re: Oil leak.

If I recall correctly there is a couple of o rings on the pushrod. Also check the small roller bearing in the opposite end of the shaft from your leak. It is probably junk if the pushrod was grooved. New o-rings and a new bearing would help to stabilize the pushrod and hopefully eliminate the leak.

Hey Greg, you are right about that roller bearing being junk. I forgot to mention that I put in a new roller bearing and pressure plate bearing when I replaced the clutch rod and slave cylinder. The clutch rod came with new o-rings but they are on the other side. I guess that's what confuses me. It has two o-rings to keep oil out of the clutch side but nothing on the slave side.

After reading your post, I started thinking about the clutch rod orientation. I just put it back in the way I pulled it out but logically the o-rings should go towards the altern. cover side being as the clutch side has it's own seal. Explains why it's been leaking ever since I bought it. Kind of chuckling that I didn't catch that it was backwards. Thanks.
