01 SS New Owner Questions
Had my SS about 2 weeks now, I have a few questions, im totally new to Ducati, and for the most part new to bikes as well.
Mine is a 900 Supersport i.e., is the i.e. an upgraded or downgraded version or what are the differences... I hear about supersport/s, just supersport, what does mine actually mean compared to others?
Scheduled valve tune up, (previous owner did it at 8,000 and the bike is currently at 14,200) I read alot about people saying it's much more simple than many maintenence shops make it out to be, for someone who works on cars alot, is this really something im totally capable of im just believing most shops when say it's a "decent project" and best for them to tackle. Winter is approaching and my bike is being stored where my friends 06 Buell Lightning 900 where we both will be doing maintenence on our bikes over the winter. So the question is, is it easier than most shops make it out to be?
Current mods are...
Evo master cylinder
Sil Moto Carbon Slips
"Dealership burned" ECU to amp up bikes mid-range (just what I was told from previous owner)
Metzler front and rear tires, touring designed center of tire for better life, soft sides for cornering
Factory air box top is out of it, i don't remember if he said the other one was a purchased wide open style one or if it's one just cut open, im yet to take the tank off and inspect.
Open clutch cover and fender elim also.
I would love to make this bike lighter, I can tell weight holds this thing back, the most suggested one I see is the new lightweight tank that saves you almost 10 lbs, I do not have $1300 for saving 10lbs, I would assume just lose the 10lbs myself and get the same weight reduction and save the $1300.
Anyone have an wallet sparing mods they have done? How about a power commander, any Jap bike forum all i hear is the first mod to do is a PC, here I dont see PC being thrown around like your bike needs it as much as it needs fuel. At $300, it seems to be quite the bargain compared to other mods people suggest.

you don't seem to need a power commander,
since your ecu has been altered already.
all Supersports from '98 up are referred to
as i.e. Modells, which is a shortage of
injectione electronica.
most people ( incl. me ) tend to tighten the
belts too much at first.
cheers.

Flywheel is only $250-ish for the Nichols w/ locknuts. Revs up faster and turns quicker. The bike isn't that heavy but the engine feels like it needs to be freed of some fat.

Proper adjustment of the belts calls for a specific amount of play.Overtightening them could lead to a repair bill in excess of $1,000.It's a very simple thing to do right, and also very easy to do a LOT of damage.

this is what i tried to say, get some one with
experience for the first belt change, not to
mess it up and get an idea how much they
should be tightened etc.
cheers.
