Adding an aftermarket oil gauge?
This is my first air-cooled Duc, and I'm feeling a little weird that there's neither a coolant temp gauge (no coolant duh), no oil temperature gauge and no oil pressure gauge. Sure, there's the warning light, but I'd like to be a little better-informed than that.
So... who's added an aftermarket oil pressure or temp gauge? What did you use? I checked out the local auto parts store and they only had analog mechanical gauges, I'd rather use something electric. Because I'm not racing the bike, I'd probably prefer a oil pressure gauge than oil temp...
Thoughts?

The one I just bought has an analog oil pressure gauge added to it. My friend had it added. It was nicely done, and looks almost factory. I have to go out of town, but am back sometime Monday. I'll see if I can get over there get some notes and take a pic when I get back (I still need to pick it up). Portland isn't too far off if you want to see how it was set up in person. I know it's not electronic, but may be worth checking out anyway.

The '96 SP's had an oil temp gauge. I added the factory SP gauge, cluster, sending unit and pigtail (although the factory pigtail was wired wrong and I had to make my own) from a SP to my CR. The best part is that it IS Factory, sort of.....

copperhead: I would really prefer to use an electrical gauge, but I'd like to check yours out. Are you going to be up in Maine anytime soon? Though I don't need an excuse to ride down to NH... cheap beer after all
900duc: Anyway you can take pics of the setup? And, do you happen to remember how much it cost?

Number9,
I will try to remember to take some pictures this weekend and post on Mon. As for how much all of this costs I don't know off the top of my head. I find it much better for my sanity if I try not to focus on how much money my Duc parts cost! I ordered a few bits at a time from my local stealer (DucSea) and spread it out over a couple of months, this way my wife also does not see huge dollars all at once on the Visa. Parts you will need for a '96 SS/SP: oil screen, sending unit, wiring pigtail, cluster and oil temp gauge (I also got a C/F cluster cover for added bling ). All you need to do is pull your old cluster and take out the tach, speedo and idiot lights and reinstall along with the new oil gauge in the new cluster and plug in the new pigtail into the harness. Then replace the oil screen and put in the sender. You will also need a different windscreen from stock, I already had a Zerogravity Doublebubble and it fit fine.

Not sure when I'll get up that way. I should have the bike this weekend, and will take some pics. Need to get her reregisteres as well. I'm sorry for the delayed response, got back from Ohio early yesterday morning and spent the day recovering and running errands.

OK, They're crappy shots from my Palm, but I just picked her up today and had no film in my camera. I'll try to get better shots soon. The '92SS with added oil gauge:

Like 900Duc, I added the Ducati oil temp gauge to my 93 900SS. Ducati used to sell it as a "kit", icluded everything you needed, oil temp gauge, sending unit, replacement oil screen bolt, new instrument cluster w/hole for oil gauge, and wiring harness. It has been several years, but I think I paid about $160.00 for the entire package.
As 900Duc said, wiring harness was not plug and play. I had to mess around with it before I fugured out exactly was wired wrong.
I like the kit because it looks just like the 900SS that came with the oil temp gauge.
900Duc, glad you were able to get the gauge to work! Hope my suggestions made it easier for you!
