TT F1 (almost supersport) nearly done !

Well I suppose it uses Supersport cases....and where else would it fit on this site, ha ha.

I put some photos in the show your bikes thread a while ago, but up until just today we now have an almost complete bike and its first test is on the 21st, then the first race that coming weekend.

I took these photos so I could do some photoshopping for the colours, will be Tricolre but with GP12 shade of colours to stand out on TV (the series is televised), but with a retro scheme and period decals.

Its our own frame and swinging arm, and is as exact to the original as we could get it except it has modern geometry and 1.1:1 rising rate.

Weight is 137kg, with oil but no fuel, the motor has Carrillo rods, +2mm Omega pistons (944cc), ST2 cams, our own manifolds and our own porting with 41mm flatslides, 50mm headers and a Zeeltronic ignition - all kept cool with a massive 2" thick cooler. Should be good for 100hp, but will be happy with 90 for now until we can get it all dialled in.

Hope you like it, I love it and cant wait to race it and ride the wheels off it !!

Hi,

Sweet build... kinda funky, a F1 with a SS motor... kinda miss that forward facing exhaust for the rear cylinder.

Have fun with it

Well it ran...sort of :-(

The ignition was playing up and would only rev to 3800 where it would go crazy and start to hit the limiter (which I had set to OFF to overcome it). So I just rode it round below that, backing off down the straights and basically just tried to used to teh bike, as I have never ridden a Ducati before. We tried all sorts to cure it, but it was a repaired Zeeltronic unit to begin with so no surprises it didnt work really.
Up to 3800 though, it was lifting the front out of the hairpin and tight chicane and keeping up with anything out of the corners, it was only a trackday though so am not playing heros, but it deffo felt really nice bike. Going into corners and mid corner though was just like shooting fish in a barrel....even with racers there !
I only got about 20 laps in, through trying to cure the ignition.

So the handling is brilliant, I adjusted the front rebound once but all in all has a really good front end, as good as my old R6 I would say and flicks a lot quicker, so quick it feels like a big 250GP bike.

After lunch the ignition packed up and that was that, I have ordered an Ignitech unit now so when that comes I will be doing my first race on it at Aintree mid Sept, then the Nationals at the end of Sept, woopwoop !!

Heres a quick cheeky shot, feel at home on it already !

Alas no, it would have been nice but we were pre-occupied with trying to sort the ignition than to do some video work. Maybe for the race day....and if I can get Dad to work out how to do a video!

Cheers, John

Great looking bike ! The Ignitek is definitely the way to go . I have them on 2 bikes.

Is the swingarm custom or adapted from something else ?
Would love to see some pics of the rising rate linkage and swingarm .

Yeah its what everyone seem to use so it was the way to go. Looks like a good unit and has everything we need for racing.

No its not adapted, we had to make it as the original F1 has ribs in so ours needed it too to make it look as close as possible to the original. We fabricated it, I pressed the ribs in by making a press tool and putting it under a 200 tonne press at work, we than made the insides, made the top and bottom and welded it all up. The original was some wierd extrusion that we think started as a rectangular box but with a # profile and Ducati just cut off the bits they didnt need, leaving the ribs in and the underneath with two sides hanging down - which ours does. Its from 7000 series, doesnt need heat treating after welding and is from from 3mm thick guage. Its pretty stiff.

Frame is from 4130 cro-mo.

Rear linkage isnt exactly original, although it looks it. We went for 1.1:1 rising rate (same as R6) instead of 1.4:1 as they were in the day (going off scaling up the old pictures from books). With todays tyre tech and suspension theories we went with performance rather than true replica. The rocker arm we made, along with the rear connection U section (or whatever its called) and uses a 916 shock which we had to cut and shut the resevoir, then re-valve to suit. It feels OK but will be surprised if we dont change the shim stacks as time goes on (or just stick an Ohlins in).

Dont have any close ups, this is the best pic of it really.
