gas tank cleaning DIY ?
So I pulled my tank to change the filter. Inside of the tank is, in a word, NASTY.
Previous owner should be ashamed.
Believe it or not, the tank doesn't leak!!
I was wondering if an acetone/MEK rinse would be enough, or if I should reline the inside. Also wondering if this would be better done by a shop, rather than in my basement.

l have found that using a sandblaster with a rubber hose attached to the end works wonders,
The rubber hose flops round inside the tank & it allows full coverage...

I wanted a project!! LOL
I read the POR-15 piece several times and decided on the DIY approach.
So far I've washed, rinsed, wire brushed, repeat several times. The bottom of the tank actually looks pretty good. The connection tubes are pitted. but I think they're ok. The top of the tank is rusted pretty bad.(gotta love digital cams and a flash to 'see where you can't see'.
I've ordered the POR kit, and will pick it up tomorrow.

So far, just fair with POR
I picked up my POR-15 kit today. I did the 'marine clean' part. I sloshed for about 40 minutes, then let it sit and rotated for another 30. There is still varnish, and considerable rust on the inner walls.
I can't find any pics of just the Marine Clean results to know how clean it will actually get.
My intention is to pick up another quart. ($20 on top of the $50 for the kit)
I was curious if the concentration of 1/1 is an absolute rule. I was hoping to dump in a quart of MC, then fill the tank and let it sit for ???? because the top of the tank is 10x worse than the bottom.
Any thoughts?

I googled tank cleaning[diy] and found a way to convert the rust back to steel.12V battery and some laundry baking soda and water, I think, couple of wires and some steel to use as an anode.
Didn't try it yet, but it definitely looked like something I might be tempted to use.
