It's aluminum. See here for the polished and cut down cover on mine.

When I bought my 1996 SS/CR it had a CF cover on it. I ended up buying a used PSR pressure plate for $50 and abandon the cover. I say let the clutch show!

Its alloy.

Altered my '95 SS cover using some bi-metal holesaws?

Have since polished it up using coarse -to - fine wet&dry paper, once you have vented the cover you will need stainless clutch springs & bolts, also a posh pressure plate! Paint the standard one or get shopping...

Was'nt too keen on exposing too much rotating clutch in case I have an off and it ends up eating my leg...

i have 2 that are modded and they are both steel.....

the steel ones have the flat mounting holes being pressed steel and as you can see in those pictures the alloy ones have a raised mounting hole, being cast hope that helps??

they made both, the later models i believed used the steel over alloy.

The oem steel covers will not protect your clutch in a lowside any more than a vented one.A billet cover will tho.My track SS has a cover from Axljax Racing. It's been down hard on it a few times with only scratches.Billet Aluminum Clutch covers, sliders, suspension links, ratchet covers, for Suzuki SV650 Racers and Track Day Warriors

think he is more after the look and not planning on low siding it like the rest of us haha we are discussing street bikes here not race bikes, last thing we want to do is low side our bikes let alone high side it for that matter lol

alloy and carbon are better for bling value but as RIC did mention if you want protection over anything else with a little bling value then yes as RIC mentioned, billet is the way to go

that is a pressed steel cover just like my one and mine, see the holes where the bolts go threw, see how thin the meterial is and these are also made from 2 parts, if you are going to drill a hole threw it you will see where the 2 parts have been pressed together., also if you look at the alloy ones, you will see they are raised about 10mm, you can still polish it just clear coat it after i have painted mine black.
