External Fuel Valve install

Since I bought it new my '96 900SP has leaked fuel past the Float Valves no matter what I tried, including new float kits and a new undertank petcock so the solution was to mount an external fuel valve. I used a Pingel Part # 6250-AH 3/8 NPT Hex. I made a bracket and mounted it to the inner fairing bolt position. It works perfect and no more leaks and tucks into the space quite nicely.

strong vacuum sound, hold wallet tightly

holy crap. $86 for a fuel shutoff valve? I've got a crap little motion pro that I put in last year when the tank shutoff stopped working. Put the filter external also. This pingel one is 100 times nicer looking than mine and cool that it's hard mounted to the frame.

thanks for putting the pictures up. This is the nicest execution of the external fuel valve I've seen so far.

2nd Spring in a row that I've had to "unstick" my float bowl needles...I'm doing this. Thank you for posting!

you guys must let your bikes sit for a while I'm assuming? It's never happened to me in 6 or so years. *knock on wood*

The riding season is only 6-7 months long where I live, so she has to sit for a while each winter.

I just had my 94 900ss fill my horizontal cylinder with fuel, it has 41 FCR's on it. Is there an easy fix to the float needle sticking on these carbs? Also when it has done it once, will it keep sticking?

Tapping gently on the side of the bowl may free it up temporarily. But in all reality, pulling the float bowl and inspecting the needle is pretty easy. While the bowl is off, you can spray some compressed air into the needle seat to clear out anything that may be stuck in there which is hanging the needle up and keeping it from seating. Once you do that, and inspect the needle, reassemble it and make sure the needle is sliding smoothly and seating properly by hand. If so, button it all together again!

Some carbs have floats which have a tang that you bend to limit float drop. You bend the tab to limit how much needles drop in seat before hitting the stop. Make sure if you have these float travel limiters that they are adjusted so no more than half of the needle can come out of the seat before the float hits the stop tab. Some times they forget to mention this adjustment, which can allow the needle to drop too far and
