Dropped my bike.
Ugh. I had a little accident on my bike after an amazing ride. Guess I was a little fatigued etc. Stopped at the gas station, bought a powerade & was pushing my bike away from the pumps when the stand hit one of the gas stations' raised filler nozzles for the underground tank and the bike tipped over onto the opposite side from the stand. I was standing there going oh no way that didn't just happen. I lifted it up again and was almost in tears when I pushed it to safety. Had a look at the damage and I have a scrape at the bottom of the fairing, a little scrape to the brake lever, a little scrape to the handle bar end and brake lever but nothing major at all. The clip on seems a little bent (tiny bit).
So some lessons: don't move the bike at all, ever with the stand still down.
make sure I have appropriate tools with me at all times: namely allen keys as just about everything on the bike needs them and I didn't have any.
Be careful when I stop after 3 hour rides.
I'm a little heartbroken, however I'm a bit of an optimist so on the plus side. I can buy some nice clip ons now without feeling guilty. I can buy a sharkskins fairing and paint it without feeling guilty. I'm a noob. the guy I bought it from said I will drop it, I disagreed with him because I intended to be so careful. Now that he was right and I have dropped it, I feel like I got that inevitable out of the way, now I can just focus on enjoying the bike and I feel like its more mine now than ever before; It has some character!
So when I went to start it up, at first the oil light didn't turn off. I started to freak out after waiting for about 10s I shut it down and freaked out. Had a look and there was no oil leaking. Really it was a minimal impact drop going about 1/4 of an km/hr. So I turned it back on and started it up again. The oil light stayed on so I gave it a little gas blip, then the light went off when it returned to idle. Phew.
Now that I have it home and have adjusted the clip on so it's back in alignment, is there anything else I need to check?

I feel for you mate, its heart wrenching when you hear that crunch sound, on a plus side they make touch down sliders for SS IE models.
Also there is a bloke in Adelaide who makes fiberglass panels for SS bikes not to sure if he has IE fairings, postage may be cheaper for you than that crazy US postage.

You aren't the first and won't be the last.
Lesson learned , don't sweat it , Fix it or Eff it as they say , Don't beat yourself up about it , minor mishap, Don't let it interfere with what you should be paying attention about ... 100% focus when riding , about that moment , don't think about what happened and loose focus about what is going to happen...
Look ahead not behind...
Be safe ride safe ....
Pick and choose when you are going to ride...

almost happened to me, was just pushing the bike back into her room, when i thought the side stand was still down, as i walked away i felt a nudge on my leg, seems as i pushed her indoors the side stand had moved slightly, not fully down! caught her just in time! would have killed me if she had fallen :-( one - would have dropped on my still broken leg, two - would have no doubt crunched the side panel!
Lesson learnt = ALWAYS make sure stand is fully down b4 walking away ;-)

Yep, I done the old stand not all the way down too. I was still on the bike when I leaned it over so I went down with it. Grrrrr!
Um, the side stand into the foot. That's so damn funny it brought tears to my eyes.

All this talk about forgetting the sidestand is either up or down causing problems, is actually making me like the auto up feature from the '99 750SS. I don't have to guess if I'm on the bike, the stand is up, if i'm moving the bike it's up, basically if i've touched the bike it's more than likely up

Been there and it sucks. Just fix everything and learn a few things about the machine in the process.
