900SS collet/valve sizes?

Went out today for a cold but sunny ride to my local Duke dealer to get some new valve collets for my oncoming motor rebuild... gave the guy behind the counter the bikes info (1995 carby 900SS) & explained I needed 8 of 669.1.003.1A.

He came back with a bag of eight collets, 66910011E - closer examination of the smallprint on the bag now I am home says they are for a ST4/748B/998??

Will these work with the valves on my carby? Do the valve sizes match up, i.e. are they both 7mm/8mm valves etc?

Help!

ss valves are definately bigger.
8mm stem vs 7mm on the 4valvers I think.
collets (split rings ?) would have to be bigger as well.

66910031A is the correct part number for the 8 mm collets used on the older 2V bikes. Looks like your receipt is correct, but your bag of parts is for the 7 mm valves.

Ah dammit... looks like he was trying to be clever. Wouldnt mind but its a 44-mile roundtrip just to get there and back? Will give them a call later and educate the guy.
