First mods for new to me '99 750SS

Finally got my new baby out for the very first time. Had new tires put on because even though the bike only has 3200 miles on it, I did not feel safe pushing hard with 12 year old tires. I also had the dealer install a 14T front sprocket, and already like the change.

Compared to my Sport Classic, well of course the SS can't compare with the power, or even the handling and brakes of the SC, which has been heavily upgraded. Nonetheless, I found the 750 absolutely delightful to ride. My SC is pretty high strung, and it is truly bitchy if you are not riding it really hard. By comparison, the SS was perfectly happy in stop and go traffic, and cruising along at a more chill pace. Having said that, it really handles great, is actually more flick-able than my SC, and felt perfectly capable and stable at speed. It is also my first bike with a faring, and it is amazingly effective. I was doing 95+ on the freeway and didn't even know it.

The down side is the clutch pull is crazy stiff. Even worst than the stock SC clutch, which is a dry clutch. I changed the slave cylinder on the SC, and that is the next mod for the SS.

The other thing is that the SS is crazy quiet. Almost sewing machine quiet. My SC has the Termis, no sound baffles, velocity stacks, and the open clutch. It is LOUD. I don't want the SS to be even remotely as loud, but I would like to hear that magical Ducati sound. Does anyone know who still makes a slip-on that will fit a '99 750SS? I prefer not to have to do any custom fitting.

I also assume this is all pre ECU, so I am guessing with a simple slip-on, I won't need to tweak the fuel/air mixture. Is that true?

Thanks for your feedback.

If clutch pull is a problem, get a large clutch slave cylinder. That significantly changed the clutch pull for me and I can now ride all day without any trouble. I also recommend changing the gearing.

Take two opposite springs, bolts and caps off of the clutch & just run four springs - MUCH lighter pull and no slippage! Done it to mine, saves your clutch hand a treat.
