Cam Belt Change
Can someone direct me to a good tutorial on changing the cambelts ? I removed my covers. It doesn't look that complex. Are all brands of belts equal ? I see some are advertised as Kevlar reinforced. This would seem to be a good thing. Which brand will have the longest life and lowest failure rate ?

You're probably the first person to ever ask about changing the belts on a desmodue, hmm lets see...I went to this page and typed "cam belt" and it looks like I was wrong, there may have been one or two others...

Ducati belts are not very expensive (I think everyone just expects them to be) and are also not made in China.

Maybe it's just my local Ducati shop (Myers in Asheville), but when I changed my belts last year, the OEM belts were less expensive than those available through the normal online places that I've purchased from in the past. Not so much that I saved huge bucks, but enough so that I definitely wanted to steer my business locally, and hopefully support them when possible.
Nothing against the online dealers-- we need them to stay in business too.

Same here in northern california. They were $30 for BOTH belts out the door from my local duc dealer whereas they were 46.50 EACH when i called motowheels as they where about the same driving distance for me along with my duc dealer.
I mentioned to them they were only 30 for both, for a belt stamped with the ducati name on them from my dealer but they didn't give a damn as thats what they charge. Whats the deal with that? Why does motowheels feel they can rip people off like that? Motowheels can kiss my ass if thats the kinda mark up they feel entitled to charge.

Your dealer gave them away ! The dealer price is $37 each. Ca-cycleworks sells their belts for $40 each, $47 (same belt) from Motowheels. Not quite as big a difference as you make it seem.

i think he said they had a surplus. they may have been packaged wrong as there were two belts wrapped up in one cardboard belt holder. I spend 47.50 out the door for two belts a ducati oil filter and crush washer at the dealer in Citrus Heights, CA.
