Noob question 1994 900ss front brakes
I have picked up a 94 900ss and am going to bring it back to life. My first trouble was when pulling the front brakes, the calipers would not clear the inside of the rim when pulling them back off the disk. I just ended up pulling the disks as the wheels are going out for paint, but what am I doing wrong, the bike has brembo calipers, 17" brembo front rim. I have never had an issue like this before, thanks for your help.

I almost did the same thing myself the first time I took off the calipers, but the trick is just to gently roll them off the of disc, or to gently pull and push the capiler to compress the pads a little first, before rolling them off. This should allow the caliper to pivot around the disc without hitting the rim.

The 320mm discs do make the gap very slim for getting the calipers off.
As has been suggested try gently rolling the caliper away from the centre line of the bike over the disc (try putting a cloth between the caliper and the inside of the wheel rim to protect the metals)
or / and
try removing the pads from the caliper as well, the extra clearance from not having the pads in place makes the job easier.
Good luck.

As you remove the calipers pull them back as close to the rim as you can then pull them slightly sideways, just enough to increase the pad gap & they will come right off....

No need, just press pads apart slightly and the caliper will come off easily.

Thanks guys, now I know for next time. The bike is in teardown mode so this time it didn't matter. I just felt dumb...
