Stuck chain adjusters

HI

On the RHS aluminium swing arm of my 900SS, I cannot turn the adjuster bolt in any direction. Tried CRC spray, oil, etc but no go

I am certain I would ruin the bolt if I use too much force.. Any suggestion please

rgds
William

If you have the means to support the rear of the bike and remove the rear wheel, do it. Then take both adjuster out of the swing arm, clean the adjusters up and grease the threads on the adjuster bolts. While you there clean the axle and everything else you don't normally have access to.

Penetrating oil, heat, patience. Repeat. They are a bugger when frozen.

most definately do that.

I'd highly recommend when you reassemble you use anti-sieze compound on the threads, help keep it from happening again.

I had exactly this situation on both sides of my 95sssp when I first got the bike. The key for me was never turning the bolts anywhere near hard enough to risk damaging them, no matter how frustrating it was. penetrating oil, heat, back and forth with the wrench, little tap with the hammer, penetrating oil, heat, wrench.... Each side took about 20-30 minutes if I remember right. Rusty mess inside once they came out.

Do you have easy access to a bit of diesel. That can be just as good sometimes.

He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a pebble and rolling an ankle.

I read about making homeade penetrating oil using diesel and I think automatic trasmission mixed 50/50 or something like that.

Depending in the state of the threads you could drill out the old threads and fit a helicoil/thread insert either side?
