Retro SS1000
I've happened across a 2003(I think) SS1000 and it's cheap. Been sitting for 2 years and looking shabby. It's yellow in colour and just looks wrong IMO!! No offence too anyone on here that owns a yellow Duke, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!
I have an idea to purchase it and turn it into an early model (70's) SS 900 lookalike/tribute by ditching the fairings.tank and side covers and fitting reproduction period items from the 70's.
If anyone on here has already done it, or seen it done any info would be appreciated.
I think that with the fuel injected 1000,good brakes and suspension it would be good fun to ride over the mountain to the pub on a sunday and watch all the bikers try and figure out what model Duke it is. Just to really confuse them I might paint it a non Duke colour!!!
Any help/ideas on this will be considered, although I have a pretty good idea on what I will do.

there are some good pictures in the "post your SS pics" thread. I saw one in there that had a retro fairing, exhaust, and spoked wheels. It looked ok, nowhere near as good as a GT1000 or something like that.

Wish I had the money for a GT1000, what with three kids at Uni and a mortgage things get a bit tight at times.
I have my Aprilia Shiver and that took some getting past the wifey!!
I am going to have one more look at the 1000 today, although I have pretty well made up my mind to get it.
I will post some pics, it's in a sorry state.

The grey 1000ss with red wheels is one of my all time favorite Ducatis. Buy a sport classic because it would cost more to mod the ss properly anyway.

Well I'm gutted!!
Just looked at the bike again and got it going.
The big end is shot!! Not to mention a whole lot of other problems.
Nothing I can't fix, although I have done some sums and would be better off buying something a bit better without all the headaches.
Now going to look at a 99 Full Fairing 900ss!!

Ken, I had the same idea as you. I looked for a 900 and want to turn it in to a reto cafe racers, but fell in love with my 2001 900ss ie just the way she was. I think I will look for a sport classic in the future to my need. Also a Monster evo, 1198, Multistrada, and wait I'm getting carried away
Good luck with either one you get. I really like the grey and red 1000ss.

At this stage it looks like it's the 900 for me.
Are there anythings apart from the obvious that I should look for?
It's a 99 fuel injected and it's yellow.

I would try to see if they have a record of services. Look at wear and tear. Accidents? Mods?

I just sold my 900ss in october, and I miss it dearly. You will love that bike. You also mentioned you are thinking about doing a remake of a 70's look. Something to look out for: tank will most likely not fit.... If it were me in your place, I would turn it into a naked bike and paint it if you don't like yellow. good luck and let us know how your progress goes.
