Where to buy/what parts for 900ss fork valving/internal update??
I have a 1995 900ss/cr. The previous owner put in the heavier .85mm/kg springs, and new 5 weight fork oil. I would like to maybe put in a heavier fork oil, and I would like to upgrade the valving. Is there such thing as 'gold valve emulators' or something simular for this bike? Where do I go for upgraded valving parts, and what parts do I need? I have a local suspension shop that will do the work, but I don't know what parts to ask for or where to get the parts. Thanks. -Todd

I think that the crs' all had the non-adjustable forks by Marzoochi. As far as I know the Zook forks can't be internaly upgraded. But if you have the Showas you can put in the Gold valves.

I thought that valve 'emulators' were available for forks that did not have any adjustments like the stock '95 ss/cr forks? Can anyone explain? I found Race Tech Inc's website, and they seem to show a 'gold valve fork kit' for the 1995 ss/cr, but it gives a kind of vague expaination of what is included. Also, according to thier chart, I need even heavier springs as well (dang, I knew I should have stuck with that diet!).

The 95s still have the Showa forks that can be upgraded with the Race Tech Gold valves. The 96-and-later Marzoccis are the ones that can't be rebuilt.

Meaning if its Marzocchi forks its a CR. If its an SS it has Showa forks. Half fairing vs full fairing, right?

The CR forks are totally non-rebuildable. Emulators, Gold Valves and the like are not applicable.
The .85 springs and a change to 15W oil helps a lot. With most brands of 5W oil your fork would be totally underdampened. The compression damping is position controlled and the heavy oil has little effect. Make sure you have your spacer set up correctly to give you about 35mm of loaded sag.

No, even the CRs have rebuildable Showa forks through 1995. They are non-adjustable, but IMO, if they are set up properly for your weight, that's a minor issue. Most people don't know how to adjust them anyway. Better off to set, forget, and learn to ride.

900 SL "V" 1996 model
Howdy gents!
Im following this thread with great intrest! Am compleetly rebuiling my bike and also want to uprade my froont showas.
Since i live in South Africa these sort of upgrades are not readily availible, So im reliant on good info and the internet to do my shopping.
What uprade options can you learned gents suggest?, and can these upgrades be performed by a reasonably competent DIY guy at home without any special tooling.
Am also considering a good used if i can find rear Ohlin 46PRCL, or might even bite the bullet and spring for a new one if i can find a well piced one.
Thanks in avance.

I have a 95' CR w/ Showa non- adjustable forks: I have the race tech 9k springs and gold valves and 10w oil. I also have the race tech spring in the rear w/ new valving...handles 1000% better than stock.
Acually it was my first mod 1 week after i bought it. You can't go fast if it doesn't handle IMHO

I'm about to do pretty much the exact mods to my 95 CR. In fact, I'm dropping the forks and shock off tonight here: www.tracksideengineering.com
The guy who runs this as a side business is a Showa factory suspension engineer.
