My kinda winter project

I have a '98 900cr. About a year ago my chain went right through my engine(no case saver). Luckily I have another bike my Aprilia RSV Mille R so I can still ride. Since my baby has been down I figured this was the time to go ahead and do everything I wanted to. Well one of the problems I am running into are motor options. I have been reading from this post that I am limited to what I can run seeming how I want to keep my swingarm and not change it. Well I am changing it but keeping it same width as old motor and putting a S2R SSSA already got the mount welded. Since I have been riding my Ape I have been spoiled, I love the amount of torque and power she puts out. Besides putting the Ape motor in the Duc(sacrilege) What would be the best option motor wise. Buy a replacement 900 engine and go 944 with flat slides or go 1000DS possibly big bore it or.......
Thank you for your input.

I have done both. Modified a '96 SS/SP w/944 kit, HC pistons, 41mm flatslides, etc. and now own an '05 SS1000DS that is mostly stock. I my experience the SS/SP was more "beastly" feeling in a way and the SS1000DS is more civil yet smoother and faster. Both bikes were/are fun and I would have no problem with either motor. I think on a day to day basis you may find the DS motor to be easier to live with.

Still working on the shock mount but just need to get it welded. One thing I noticed is suspension travel at the rear. I do not have a wheel yet but hopefully its sitting to high. Ran out of money still need to get my motor but couldnt pass up the deal on the sssa.
