Was thinking at work today...
- would a measure of two-stroke oil in my tank stop my tank from rusting/rusting further? Longterm, yes - I will be POR-15 sealing the thing, just thinking short-term. Would make the bike smell nice as well as sound nice
- do 848 clutch plates fit a dry-clutch basket? Being wet-clutch plates you could then convert the cover so the clutch ran part-immersed in an oil-bath, stopping any dry-clutch premature tab & plate wear (& noise... )

Hi,
The only problem I see with running 2 stroke oil in the gas tank is, the fuel and oil are lighter than the water. So the water will still seperate out and settle on the bottom of the tank. I don't think it will hurt to try it, I'm just not sure it will work as well as you hope.
Sorry but I can't help with your clutch question.
Cheers,
Bill

I'm just guessing, but I would think if you got enough in there to actually have any value for the rusting issue that you'd be fouling plugs. Not sure how the fuel injection would do with that either?? Interesting question.

I don't think adding oil is going to make any difference to the rate at which the tank rots. Your bike would be off the road for a couple of days but it would be worth sealing it.
As I say to my kids, "When's the best time to do anything?" The answer is, "Right now".

I'd think any sufficent concentration of 2 Stroke oil that would coat the tank to help prevent rust would affect your performance. I'd stick to adding Stabil or simple methyl hydrate to your tank to absorb the water every six months when not in regular use.

+1
- so the Methyl absorbs the water, then is absorbed into the petrol?
Bike is a '95 carby, so no probs with the injection system etc...
Ideally I need to try an 848 plate in the spare basket to see if it will fit? Cant see any being that knackered yet tho.

Isopropyl Alcohol also "absorbs" any water in the tank and converts it to a combustable substance, should be available from any hardware store or car painter, 1/2 a litre is plenty.

Cheers guys! The tank itself is empty, just stripped it to remove/relocate the fuel filter so needless to say its dry of all water & fuel at the mo... We are currently having a very mild Winter here in the UK so I may be refitting it later today and going off out for a ride...
nzdave - what dose are we looking at for say half-a-tank of fuel?
