Advice on buying an older SS

Looking at a '99 750SS. It has 22K miles on it. Even if it has been adequately cared for, is that still a lot of miles for this kind of bike? I am just wondering if it is better to find a newer and/or lower mileage bike.

Thanks for your feedback.

Black '12 Honda CBR250R: (Keeps me entertained until I find the Black 749 that I am searching for) Too new to even have any mods, so totally stock.

older SS's just began to run right after about 10K. Good care should make 22K a non-problem.

IMO #1 - 22k miles is nothing.

IMO #2 - given your 1000 cc engine and mods I expect you will find the 750 lacking a lot.

Says he who also owns in various (non running) states of repair a 1959 BSA, a 1964 Lambretta and a 1969 Yamaha DS6.

IMO #3 - if you think you want/need it, buy it - you can always sell it.

I had a '96 and a '97 SS/SP and ran both to 30K with no problem. Would probably still have either except for a guy in a Civic who took the '97 and a divorce that took the '96. Now have an '05 SS1000DS with 16K and no probs. I would not be concerned with 22K as long as it has been properly cared for.

Mine has 41000 miles on it and still runs like new.

Gone are the days of rebuilding engines every 10000, unless you're lucky enough to have a 70s model
