I hate this f***ing fairing
Things were so much easier to deal with on my 998s. Trying to get the fairing off this SS1000DS is a PITA. Can't get the bolts to unscrew thanks to spinning nuts and can't get at the seam between upper and lower. I may be looking for a Kaemena 1/4 fairing. Damned Ducati.

Hmmm...gotta be the same unemployed Kawasaki designer that did the ST series bodywork. Strange to think abominations like this can come from the same company that gave us the 749 and 999 series - Those bikes are a joy to work on.
One of the main reasons why my ST3 was in and out of my life so fast was that bodywork...among other little things, just a really crappily designed bike.

Changed my carby full fairings:
- for half-fairings!
MUCH easier to work on, Full-fairings are a ballache... I rescued two CBR600's one after the other - a '90 and a '91, they had EPIC amounts of plastic everywhere...
Can you get to the back of the wellnuts with pliers or pipegrips etc?

If it makes you feel any better, my 888 side fairings have 3 different fasteners. So you need an allen wrench, a screwdriver, and a socket/box-end wrench to take it apart. Plus those damn well nuts still seem to spin after awhile, too.

Not sure how good it is for the rubber but I find a little squirt of WD40 in the well nuts often helps loosen them up enough.
