Piston ring help......
Hi guys I have a 1996 ducati 750ss wit is in parts and needs putting back together. It was given to me as a Christmas present, (lucky, i no ) all it needs is a full gasket set and new piston rings on both pistons. Now, I can't find 750 ss piston rings anywhere!!! I've emailed and rang everyone I can think of and still can't find any. Dose anyone know where I can get any, I need two sets? Could I use piston rings from the same year 750 monster?? Any info would be brilliant. Thanks, max.

Hello and welcome!
Not sure where you would get them from if Ducati dont have any, unless someone on here has a spare set or a pair comes up on eBay? It would probably be cheaper to buy a pair of hi-comp pistons and save yourself putting them in later anyways...
Gaskets? Threebond comes in useful here, used it for my alternator cover with no probs - I think from '95 onwards Ducati didn't use an engine case gasket anyway? There are no head gaskets (not on the 900 for sure) and the metal base gaskets can usually be re-used if they are in good condition?
Or you could just bolt a 900 engine in there anyways and save a lot of faff.

DUCATI SS 750 1995 ENGINE | eBay
New belts, oil & plugs and bolt it in... keep the rest for spares! Still a cheap Ducati...

Hi,
When I was doing my engine, I used three bond sealent. Ducati Milwaukee told me, they could no longer get gaskets and after market pistons would be cheaper than buying piston rings.
I used Wisco High compression pistons with great luck.
Good luck with your project.

Perhaps someone with more experience would know...There's a good chance the pt.# for '00 is the same. It's 12120131A and listed for 127.95 for a set, per piston. That's cheaper than the set for my 900 cost me, so it sounds like 750 owners are getting a good deal.

Thanks guys for all your help. After many hours looking on the Internet I have found some piston rings (Yey finally) from Germany at €85 a set. So I'm really pleased with my find. It did come with another 750 engine with the hope of just swapping them but it's a 2000 fuel injected model and my model is carbs so I couldn't do the swap, and the person who gave the bike to my parents said that he had brought the other engine from eBay with the intention of swapping them. So I went about getting the piston rings off the spare engine and it didn't have any rings on both of the pistons. Good job I dont have an injected model and put the spare engine straight in and fired it up. As for the gaskets I think I shall use sealant as like you lot have said that they don't make them anymore. Thanks guys..
Now my next two questions are.... How do you go about putting the piston rings in?? Is there a special way to do it?? as I've heard that they break very easily and don't want to buy anymore.
And my next question is... Which sealant do I get?? Don't want to put it back together and find a leak and then have to take it appart again..

This:
THREEBOND GASKET CEMENT SEALER - 1 TUBE | eBay
- is the stuff. Top jollop!
Putting the piston rings in or on? I take it the pistons are already out etc? Im thinking the oil control rings dont have a right-way-up as such as long as they are in order, the top rings usually have some sort of cryptic marking as to their orientation...
BE CAREFUL WITH THEM. They are VERY brittle and snap easily so no undue twisting or bending etc. Dou your homework, I.E:
etc...
