??! Carby petrol tank tap probs...
Removed the tank from my carby earlier today with the intention of draining it fully, then storing it over Winter in a padded box in the spare room (would stop any condensation from pooling down in the back corners where it has a habit of rotting the tank through...)
Raised the tank up and loosened both feed and return hoses - on wiggling the one attached to the tap itself it came free - because the tube inside the hose had come free from the tap and was now doing its own thing inside the hose??!
It's a push-fit back inside the tap body & looks to have been epoxied back on after a previous episode by the last owner - is this a known fault with the taps? May see if it can be tack-welded back on (my Uncle has his own fabrication business & is an accomplished TIG welder), not keen on glueing it back in for fear it may work loose with petrol peeing all over a hot engine...

Never heard of it, but anything can break. Weld (braze?) it!

Aluminium so brazing out of the question... the tube looks to be a push-fit into the tap anyway, could these be glued in as standard?

Sorry, my ETI tank has only 2 hoses with no petcock, and I forgot you were talking about the (aluminum) petcock. Aren't those available from Ducati, or a used parts outlet?

Good pic here, sirduke. $50 sounds expensive; I'd check OEM price first (if available).

That is the fuel petcock for carby models. It is NLA from Ducati. Consequently, if you need one, either fix the OE or get this EBay one. IF your barbed section 'fell off' the petcock, the unit sounds like it is FUBAR.
I had probs with mine not shutting off the fuel. I removed it and took it apart. Worked OK after that, but then no parts were broken.

I am not alone...
replace petcock on a 1993 900SS
Need fuel petcock for '97 900 SS
'91 900 SS - need help
That would be the right petcock (tried numerous searches under petrol tap, fuel tap etc being English... ), will have a quick look at the tank tap itself and see if it could be repaired & try to get a photo or two...

Here's the photos - I am CONVINCED by the lack of any weld profile that these are glued in??! You can still see the clear two-pack adhesive on the petcock itself.
There is a (I think...) M12 x 1.00mm thread on the bottom of the fuel tank itself, the hex adaptor screws onto this with a conventional right-hand thread - the petcock itself has a left-hand thread, the bottom half of the hex adaptor changes thread types from right to left halfway down so they can tighten into each other with a small copper washer in the middle. Quirky.
Just confused how they decided to let so little metal hold on a pressurized fuel line just above your vert.pot?? Glad it came off now rather than shaking out next summer in the middle of town...
