Mobil 1 15/50 available
Finally available at WalMart again. $27/5qt bottle. This'll probably get moved to the Oil forum, but since this weight oil is used in the air cooled motors, I thought I'd give a heads-up here first. I used to like Motul 300V, it smells really good burning past my valve guide seals, but it's far too expensive for me !

In '03 or thereabouts when they swapped to the 800/1000 motors, the recommended weight switched to 10W40. All I run in my 2V motor and she loves it. There is literally zero benefit to running a 50 weight oil in a motor unless it's built/recommended for it.

Will be changing from Rock Oil semi-synth 20w50 to Motul 5100 15w50 on my next oil-change, a thinner oil may help with starting in these colder conditions...
No harm in running a full-synth in an air-cooled but arguably not needed with the looser tolerances?

15w50
I like to use it in my track bike, which gets a lot hotter than my street bike, which I also use it in . Both pre-1999. Galaxy, perhaps you misunderstood my Thread. I'm not telling anyone which oil they should/should not use, but rather offering a heads-up for people who used to use this oil and liked buying it in the 5 qt. jugs at WalMart. You should continue to use 10W40, which is, fortunately, much easier to get.

That's true, but keep in mind, that motor oils that are used in motorcycle gearboxes loose at least 30% of their viscosity in the first 1,500 miles, so a 40W oil fairly quickly becomes a 30W oil and a 30W oil drops to around 20W. This means that oil pressure is also proportionally reduced. So, if you're riding during summer temperatures it is probably prudent to use the higher viscosity.

You're older 2V is spec'd for a 50 weight anyways.

True, but I'd like to believe the manufacturer has taken all of that into consideration when spec'n an oil.
I would also argue that outside air temp can be (but not always) irrelevant. An oils cSt is rated at 212 degrees of oil temperature. Doesn't matter what the outside air temp is if you're maintaining an oil temp at or below 212. Very, very rarely have I seen my oil temp that high...even on the track. I never see oil temps that high unless sitting in summer traffic and once moving, it cools back off.

I did not misunderstand your thread, but I also sincerely did not mean to hijack your thread either. It's just one of my (very tiny) pet peeve's when late model 2V owners think their motor needs or requires a 50 weight oil.

Agreed. But, they do require 100 octane fuel to run at their best right? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Hey, who cares if you have an older or newer SS or prefer Canola oil or 10W40 ? This post is for people who like to use Mobol 1 15W50, and might appreciate knowing that it is again available at WalMart. Go to the Oil and Lubrication forum if you want to argue (ad nauseum) about which oil to use. There, I feel better. End of thread (I hope)? Ian996, you're welcome!

Let me throw this out: Who makes the Off Brand oils for Walmart? or any other store are we paying for a Name? I've used Amsoil both in cars,Trucks and my bikes but the Cars and Trucks are getting the Off Brand SynOils now just because of cost.
