So here is the first step, get some fibreglass!

I bought a 2.5ltr kit which has all the stuff required

The tail has been chopped and is yet to be welded but it doesn't stop you getting
on with the build

Some board (I used 18mm mdf) which will be cut to the correct shap

Here I have used florist foam. You can use expanding foam

Care should be taken with florist foam, it cuts and sands very easily

Glue it onto the board and to each other, making it big enough
to be cut down

Getting the basic shape

This is the block with a bit of shaping. You can use a serated bread knife and some 60 or 80 grit sandpaper

Best to keep trying it on the bike

Unfortunately the powdercoaters didn't have the tank ready on friday so I am working blind at the moment.

It's best to have the tank on the frame

Bit more off the back end

Made the sponge a bit shorter

Tried out on the frame

I reckon I will sand it down lower but until I have the tank, that's all for now folks

Now it's time to cover the plug with body filler

This gets rubbed down and filled and rubbed down etc until the right finish is achieved

I reckon it would be better to paint the foam first to seal it

Use acrylic paint as it withstands the heat generated by the fiberglass

Will keep you posted

I made one back in the 70's for my 350 Yam, can't remember what I made the plug out of, but it took a lot of plaster to make the mold.
I used a bit to much fiberglass also, I could pick the bike up with the seat. It worked pretty good, looked pretty fair.
Are you going to install a rear hoop to the frame after the seat is done, to mount it?

Yes there will be some welding and grinding to do

In the end it will need powdercoating again

Just uploading some more images
