I started my SBK fork upgrade...

So far so good, I am just waiting on the top triple and I will be done.

I got a great set of 999 forks from Gotham cycles here on the forum (for a good price!). I rebuilt them with some racetech seals and new oil. It was a blast to figure out how to rebuild forks. It turns out it is really easy, and totally doable if you are at all mechanically inclined.

old vs. new

My friend has been into metal working for about a year, and boy is he getting good at it, he made me some shims for the lower triple.

the old cockpit

I was using cycle cat risers and i LOVED how the reservoirs were mounted on the end of the bars. So I used some old bar-end compression plugs to make a sturdy mount and they work PERFECT.

Plugs

With the **9 forks, you need to compensate for the 15mm offset rotors. I tried to machine my own spacers, but I was really concerned about the being true. I found these CNC'd aluminum spacers for a go cart seat.

WildKart Aluminum Anodized 5 mm Wide Seat Spacer, Black [WKSS5BK] : Magna Racing, Win with us! AiM Mychron, Bell, Bridgestone, Corsa, Digatron, DWT, Gajo Brothers, KG, Klotz, Margay, Maxxis, MG, NGK, Ribtect, Tillett, Zamp, MIR, Azusa, Kart, Racing,
All I had to do is drill them out to an M10, they work amazing. Exactly 5mm and high quality hard aluminum.

I'm happy so far!

I should post final pictures by the end of the week!

got all the fitting done! I just need to clean everything up and put it back together! I hope i did a good job rebuilding the forks, and they actually work! I had to hack up the front fender, so it looks like shit. Also the front end is a lot lower with it as high as it can go.

Excellent work - really like how you mounted the reservoirs on the bar end, must remember that trick!

Please post up any tricks on how to take the forks apart and rebuild / fit seals as its something I've been putting off!

Here is a website that makes it REALLY clear. Honestly if you're just changing seals/oil you will figure it out with these instructions.

I got out for a ride yesterday and everything works great!
