Talking High Compression Heads

Who here has swapped out their factory heads on a 900ss?
What Compression Ratio (CR) did you reach?
How much did you spend?
What brand of Heads?
What was the end result?

Looking to swap mine this winter. Trying to get the most performance/dollar. I will be doing the work myself. '01 900ss Full Arrow Exhaust. Stock ECU...ya ya I know....stock ECU...flash and dyno tune coming soon..intake mod..15/43 renthal, gold 520 DID chain

Hi,

Ah, ok.... so your a two-stroke guy

On four-stroke motors to increase the compression you swap out the pistons... HC pistons are made by Pistal,Feracci(Wiesco) and JC. They cost between 300 and 600 dollars. Ratio is 11 to 13:1, though I would not go higher than 11:1 on a street bike running pump gas.

There are several other Ducati's you can swap the heads on, however the 900SS isn't one of them, as the bolt spacing is unique from the others. As Gray said, HiComp pistons(or BBkit) would be the way to go. I would recommend an oversize oil cooler if you do this though.

As far as heads are concerned, the 900SS responds well to increased air, so porting with bigger valves is the way to go.

You have decent cams in the '01 SS, and would work well with a BBkit; and IIRC, adjustable cam pulleys. So cam timing would be essential.

Otherwise, if you just added the HiComp pistons, I would find a set of ST2 cams out there. They would be a great add on if you plan on keeping the peak HP higher up in the rev range.
