Whats wrong with my squish? - Ducati.ms

1995 900ss/cr. I put my new JE 92mm high compression pistons on and went to set the squish. With NO spacers, I can only get it down to .05". I think it should be .04" right? I just did it again with the stock pistons and it is also .05".

Am I measuring wrong? I'm using rosin core solder,btw. Do I push it all the way to the lip and measure there? I didn't think so. I'm measuring at the outside of the taper. The inside of the taper is at .06" which I think reflects a good taper.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Hi,

I had the same problem with my 750. You will need to have 0.010" turned from the bottom of your cylinders. 0.040" or 1mm is correct squish.

you need to mesure to the outsid edge of the pistion...

Paint! Argh! I was staring right at it thinking of getting them milled and then it smacked me in the forehead. I didn't mask off the base areas when I painted the cylinders and heads. I sanded the paint off and now it's perfect. Doh!
