Is there an alternative tank pad for the SSie?

I’ve had my 2000 SSie since mid summer, and the first thing I did, was to get rid of the two rubber side pads on the tank, just to visually clean up the bike a bit. Now, I can’t really figure out what to do - if anything at all - about the rear-most tank pad.

Although it’s one of the design elements that make this bike easy to identify, I’ve always felt it to be a bit on the “loud” side for my taste.

So yesterday I was browsing the German eBay version, and there I see these pictures of a yellow SSie for sale. It’s not easy to conclude from these photos, but I do think it looks like this bike has a smaller / thinner tank pad. What do you guys say? Does anybody know of an alternative tank pad for this bike, as this (painted in tank color) might just be what I’m looking for?

Thanks Niels

Hej Niels ;-)

Hilsen,
Morten

Jeg tal ikke Dansk! (but I can read it a bit)

Well, I've got a ETI tank, saves 4kg. Just needs painting this winter!

I've also got a CF 998 seat that's going on this winter, to go with the rest of the CF stuff.

Your Danish seems to be fine Tom :-)

Yes, it's a really cooool tank you have there. I would love to get one, but I'm scraping money together for my next (big) buy for the SS1000: BST wheels and as you know, they are expensive..!!! Are you still satisfied with the BST's you bought Tom?

Cheers,
Morten

Actually, that was my poor attempt at norwegian (I make 2-3 trips there each year for work).

Yes, the BSTs are nice (you can see them in the photo).

Now I just need to figure out what color to paint the tank, as everything else is CF.

Haha… Okay, Morten and I could easily get carried away here..

So, what’s the ETI tank? Who’s the supplier? - And does it cost an arm and a leg??

Just found another photo. This might just be the same tank that you’ve got Tom. I think it looks great! Looking forward to see your SS in colors too..

http://www.eti-fuelcel.com/

USD 1290.

I had it sent to my sister in the US, and my neice brought it over, so I avoided shipping and customs (though only 7.6% here, unlike the 25% you guys pay!)

Thanks Tom. I will start saving up! Still, - If anybody knows about the tank pad thingy, I would sure like to hear about it, as it would make up for a nice (as in “low cost” ) in-between solution going from stock to ETI.

Tom gave you the link to his tank, very nice one, and it takes more fuel also... The other picture you found in the Kaemna link I send you refers back to these guys http://www.dsm-ducati.de/German/german3.htm they have made a lot of stuff for the SS bikes - including a carbon tank...

Hilsen,
Morten
