What model 900ss is this?

Some one has offered to trade me this for my clean, low mileage and lowered 90 bmw 525

I know nothing about ducati's other than what i've been reading today, i ride dirt bikes, have little experience with street bikes but am going out tonight to check this bike out and most likely trade my bimmer for this.

Its a 93 900ss w/ 12k miles

Is it a superlight?

Thanks

Looks like a SS SP, not a Superlight. Probably worth about $4k.

Ok great thanks. I was asking 3300 for my bmw so this seem like a valuable trade on my end. I'm going to go for it.

This will be my first street bike and i want to daily drive it as much as i can.

I just spent the last 2 hours reading this thread.

Tell me about the Ducati 900ss - ADVrider

It has convinced me to change the timing belts and shim valves prior to taking this bike anywhere as i know the owner has only done fluid changes and nothing else from 6 to the 12k miles mark its at now.

it is a 900 SS/CR not an SP.. worth about $500-1000 less than an SP.
steel swingarm, non adjustable forks on CR version.. Looks like the full fairing was added along with a set of PVM aluminum wheels.. 2-1 exhaust system?? I see a bunch of mixed matched bits, must be some stories behind it all?

crap... I'm really glad i checked hear. I'm going to inquire on this with the owner. Thanks for the input. What is a fairing? I was curious about the exhaust as well. Every pic i've seen they've had dual ex.

At $3300 it might still be a fair trade for both of you.

Fairing+ Bodywork...spendy red plastic wrap.

Thanks, yeah i just googled it and it seems outrageous for fairing kits.

My main faith is coming from the fact that he tried to give it to his grandson but his mamma said no, to dangerous; and is now looking for a car for his grandson. So, if its good enough for him to consider this bike for his grandson it must be fairly legit.

Thanks for the newb help fellas

At $3300 you can't get hurt unless the motor needs a big service. Ask for the maintenance records.

Careful, you are going to get the bug... The SS is like crack. I spend a lot of time up Palomar "chasing the dragon" if you will...

On the surface it looks like a 1993 900SS. Prior to '93 the frames were painted white and post '93 the mirrors were not color matched they came unpainted in black. Based on that observation I'd say its a '93 SS.

The Superlights only came to the USA in yellow and were all monoposto (solo seat) models.

The SP/CR designation began with the '94 model year. Prior to that they were all simply SS models.

Like one of the previous posters stated if it is a CR with fairings and mirrors from an SS it will have non-adjustable suspension and a steel swingarm. If it is an SS/SP it will have an aluminum swingarm and adjustable suspension. If it's an aluminum swingarm look for cracks in it, that was the achilles heal of that model.

I'd check under that sticker above the left side turn signal. It seems like a strange place for a decal. Make sure the fairing is not cracked there.

There are some carbon fiber pieces that did not come on the '93 if it is an SS or the '94 and on CR models. This generation of the Super Sport ended it's run in '98 and as time passes some of the trick bits from the era become increasingly harder to find. It's still out there but it's less and less every year. Perhaps he even has the original parts as a bonus.

If the guy has service records and the swingarm is good $3300 seems fair. Kelly Blue Book for a stock model is $3265.

1993 Ducati - Kelley Blue Book

Just promise you'll replace that monstrosity of an exhaust if you do the trade.....I don't know what that's all about.
