Rear wheel width?

No not the difference between a 4.5 CR wheel and the 5.5 SP wheel. I am curious has anyone run a 6 inch wide rear wheel on there supersport. To be honest I like the Skinny CR wheel for riding in the mountains. I ask because I have a itch to get a new set of wheels. I never consider trying a 6 inch wheel. It might mean I must run a 190 rear, . I will have to check into that, I know another size might fit but I don't like weird tire profiles created by impoper tire sizes for rims. So has anyone had any experience with the super wide wheel, IMO.

I tried a 6in. on my 900 racer with a 180. Made it push a bit and it felt sluggish turning. A 5.5 is more than enough width.

A Dunlop 190 on the stock 5.5" rim will rub the chain (even some Dunlop 180s). Stick with a 5.5" (or BST 5.75"?) with a 180 tire for the best handling. Lighter too. I'll let you know when I decide to sell my Marvic Penta I mags. I've been lusting for BSTs for a long time.

Thanks for the replys. I had actually never consider a 6 in wheel until I found one online. Thought it was a good deal so was pondering if the pirce made it worth risking. My gut says 5.5 so I will probably just hold off. I don't know if I mentioned it earlier but I also wondered if chain wheel clearance would be ok. Delt with a few supermoto's that have cosmetically destroyed a wheel. because of extra wide rim width.

I've got a 5.5 inch BST with a 180 on the back of my 750 Sport and it comes very close to rubbing the chain. It also slowed down the stearing by a noticable amount.

Are you refering to slowing the steering because you previously had a 4.5 rear wheel?

These things steer slow enough.

I've found the 5.5 with a 170 works the best. or even the 4.5 160.
