super sport with DS engine
The short question.
Will any DS 1000 engine fit ?
long version
Is there a difference between the SS1000DS, Multistrada 1000DS (because of the single swing arm), Monster1000DS engine ?
Will a monster 1100DS engine also fit ?
thank you
anatak
happy halloween

Pablo Pirate put an ST3 motor in one if that's any help. Or do you particularly want to use a Multistrada motor ?

I have a couple 800ss, and I have started gathering parts for an engine SSSA conversion. Correct me if I’m wrong but I have found there are two different engines, a wide case which is on bikes with double sided swing arms (DSSA), and the narrow case for the single sided swing arms (SSSA). A wide case can easily be narrowed for the SSSA but there is no going back once you do that.
If you want an 800ss engine let me know I have two of them, if you have an extra Hyper, Monster, or Multi 1100 narrow let me know I could use at least one of them.

That's partially true.
The SSSA off the Monster S2R and S4R are an exception in that they will fit the wider cases.

Yes I would prefer an aircooled 2 valve engine. I am not the greatest mechanic and maintaining the 2 valve engine looks a lot easier than a watercooled 3 or 4 valve engine.
will a narrow case engine (SSSA) fit into the 900SS frame and can it take the 900SS swing arm ?

Ok that's reasonable.

The motor will fit in terms of where the bolt holes are, but I'm not sure about clearances in other areas. Also if you used a narrow case motor you would have to bush out the gap between the cases and your existing swing arm.
Maybe a Monster 2 valve air cooled motor is the way forward, or at a push an ST2 motor - I know it's water cooled but it's also 2 valve, and both the ST2 and the Monster engines will fit fine and your swinger will fit fine onto both.

I don't know if you've seen my build. It will give you an idea of what's involved:

Yep, can be done, been there done that. SS from '95 with SS1000 engine. There are some small issues to take care of (10 vs 12mm engine bolts, oil line couplings, exhaust headers,...).
I took carbs instead of injection, bought a seperate ignition unit, had 45mm headers made and now it makes 95 rwhp.
And now for the SS/ST3 with carbs (Honda firestorm 48mm CV) track bike that I have started with......(thanks for the inspiration Pablo....)
