Was that how much they cost back then? I guess I would have been better off buying one of them instead of some flipping condos that are worth nothing now. At least I would have an exceptional bike to look at.

Great thread on a great find. Very pleased to see that you are going to use the bike as it was intended and for confirming that I'm not crazy after all ..... about 2.5 years ago I had located a zero-mile '98 900SS-FE. Asking price was a bit high, but I was willing to pay it if that's what was needed to get the bike. Seller was very friendly and helpful. When I mentioned that I was going to ride the bike, the deal fell through; he only wanted to sell to someone who would " really appreciate the bike" and put it in a museum / private collection
Keep us posted and enjoy.

Well the black dzus and windscreen screws showed up. Now waiting on the smoked windscreen and black reverse shifter and brake pedal. I was able to get the headlight hole drilled in the fairing and will be doing the finishing work on that and wrapping the intakes with carbon this afternoon. Will try and get pics up as soon as I can.

I hope you slapped this guy! While I do respect the idea of "to each his own", imo this kind of thinking is so out of touch with what real appreciation of a beautiful vehicle should be as to be highly disrespectful to what that vehicle is all about. Even if I owned a 250GTO, the $15million or so price tag would only make sense while driving her, otherwise I may as well have a good mock up sitting in the "private collection".

a little update.
I have been buying up and changing out parts a lot lately as the riding weather is gone as of now.
List of mods
Black CNC spring retainer.
Black CNC gas cap
Black Moto gp shift and brake lever
Corse CF heel guards
CF exhaust guard to clear Corse heel gaurds.
Corse CF rear sets.
Black foot pegs. Not installed yet
Black Dzus fastners
1098 brake/clutch master cylinders. Bother were stripped and painted to match the frame color. then installed black levers. Not installed yet
All of the CF parts that I have purchased I sanded down and relceared them 2 diff times.
So far I am just having a blast working on her. But there are the days that I look out side and just want to ride but just cant. Dam Nebraska winters.
