light reflecting back in 749/999 is this right?

Hi All,

I got my 749 Dark running.. finally.. I've been working on it for 5 months and I finally got it registered and running. Great!

Now on my first night ride, I got a little surprise. You see, when I replaced my headlight housing, I decided to change things around, and I put my low beam on the bottom, and my high beam on the top. Why Not? The euro models are that way, right?

Well, the first time I hit my high-beams I practically blinded myself because so much light reflects back in the fairing.

Does it do that with the low-beams too? I know the low-beams have a cutoff pattern that would take out a lot of light on the upper part of the light, so *perhaps* it may not reflect that much light. But I don't want to pull apart the whole headlight assembly to find out and be wrong. I suspect it would still have a lot of light there.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Yes. Just been too lazy to seal it up a little.

My 2004 749 is not that bad with light reflecting back to the rider. When I got my 2005 999 S, I was surprised at the amount of light that comes back into the cockpit. No, its not out of the ordinary. Now I really don't even notice it though, and I suspect that you won't either the longer you ride your bike.

If I were you, I would not go tearing things apart, because I don't think it will make that big of a difference, unless you are doing some custom fab to block off all light coming back towards you. Best of luck!

...which would simply be a matter of some self-adhesive foam weather stripping around the headlight cut-outs in the fairing.

I had this issue when I put the RC31 fairing kit on my Hawk. A little weather stripping solved it.

That wouldn't be such a bad thing as people can see you better all lit up at night. Just as long as your forward vision isn't impaired...which it sounds like it is.

Oh.. OK, this is what I wanted to hear. I guess the next time I'm in there I'll think about putting some weatherstripping in there. But I'll have to see how hot the housing gets.

Thanks guys!
