Yes, another exhaust question!

tomorrow I pay for my first Ducati, a 999. Cant wait. Question is I was deciding on an exhaust and think I am going w/ Termi. The invoice says Silencer. The dealer said they all say that? Is it true? I want a loud sound, not silenced?! Probably a stupid question but had to ask. Also- does $1500 plus labor sound too high for slip ons? Cant find any web pages w/ them for sale to compare.
Thanks in advance!

sounds about right for termi's. they have a great sound without being too loud. if you want a LOUD great sounding exhaust go with Remus

stock = quiet (more engine than exhaust)
termi = louder, THE standard ducati sound
Remus = f-ing loudest, the loud raspy music that Bologna wants you to have

slipons are easy to install. it's the tuning or chip that may be a bit difficult if you are new to a ducati. i went with a powercommander III USB and needed it tuned on the dyno. it was worth every penny, every penny....

Silencer is a pretty standard slang term for muffler or pipe (or what ever you want to call it). Doesn't mean it silences anything.

Exactly. Bottom line is that if you know what you want/expect then make sure that's what you're getting since you're the one paying for it. Enjoy the ride! (like I need to tell you that!)

Not to hijack the thread...but what are the advantages of going with a larger diameter exhaust? I have a 51mm FBF full system now...am thinking of upgrading to a 54mm system on my 748...will I lose a ton of bottom end? I did search and couldn't find much...some vague answers here and there. Anyone have this exact setup? I have a 853 big bore kit, some major head work, BCM Filters, and some other stuff too, further upgrades planned soon.

As a general rule, yes. But not guaranteed. Your built motor will make up for quite a bit of that. You still may not gain anything low or mid, but it may turn it into a freight train above 8,000 rpm. Depends on what your after. If you love your low mid range now, probably leave it. I have a 54mm on my 749S. I've heard of guys with this system take them off a 749 cause it ruined the bottom end, but not as much of an impact on the S due to higher compression and bigger cams, so. But, I didn't gain anything down low either, just got lucky that it didn't hurt anything. Pick your poision cause you can't have both.

Lol, well worst comes to worst I can always put the old exhaust back on...sell the new one for a small loss and learn my lesson. I'm thinking of bumping up the the 890 kit that is available and going with some cams too...i have a spare motor i'm completely going over so what the heck, it's worth a shot. I'm thinking the 890 will help compensate for the low end a little...and over 8k, well that's where I spend all my time anyways

thanks!

Thanks for the replies! I made the decision to buy bike, stock, and do an exhaust at first service. I do want loud, but was nervous that the dealer said they never heard of Remus. Also, they said the termi doesent void any warranties, all others do. Ever hear this?

Spend a few more bucks and get the 54mm system. You won't be sorry!.

I'd venture to bet you will end up selling the slip on like most and getting the 54mm and ECU. When I went from stock to 57m on my 999r, the difference was unbelievable. These bikes are MADE for bigger exhausts. Run smoother, cleaner, all around better. And as far as sound > the full system sounds like the freakin' DEVIL.

You will want more power!
