996 Suspension - Mono or Biposto?
Hey guys. My 996 is set up as a mono but the subframe has the mounting points for the passenger pegs.
I have heard that straight out of the factory Ducati sometimes used this subframe for the monos when they were running short of the aluminum ones.
What do you think this indicates for my suspension - would it be set up as a mono with the softer option?
I'm 75kg or 165lbs, and on paper the mono sounds like it's best for me.

There should be a code no. on the spring, if you can post that up someone on here will be able to tell you what weight it is.

I seriously doubt Ducati ever used a bip sub frame on a mono bike from the factory. That'd be like swapping a Showa for an Ohlins if they ran short on those. Your bike was more than likely a bip from the factory that someone put a mono tail fairing or just swapped the sub frame at some point.

Yeah that's what I thought, it didn't seem like a very Ducati thing to do. There just doesn't seem to be any evidence of the subframe having had pegs mounted at all.
But I think you're right, which would probably mean a re-adjustment may be necessary for my weight.

Ducati did indeed use biposto subframes on some of their mono bikes. It happened on the later models when supplies were dwindling. What year is your duck?

How the hell would they justify that to a customer? I certainly wouldn't accept a bip sub frame on a new mono if I purchased one. Those things are 5 times heavier than the mono. Did they give a discount on the purchase price? That's not a little item that you can say, "oh, it won't matter if we change this out for that". I can't believe this was actually done

It's a 2000. Five spoke wheels etc so a later model. Would this year fall into that category?
I got the code off the rear spring: 1091-16/64 081
Does that mean anything to anyone?

Are you the original owner? Maybe a previous owner did a swap on the parts, to make a bip into a mono?

The spring is a little soft for you... way too soft if you ride with pillion.
you've gotta decide to set it up for mono or bip... the other is a compromise
