Uh Oh I goofed...socket in horizontal spark plug hole....

OK I loosened up the horizontal plug. It's got some strange multi tip NGK plug in it so the socket to use is 18mm. Therefore I couldn't use the Ducati plug tool that grips the plug. So I used a regular long socket wrench with extension. because of the wheel I just drop the socket in a attach the extension once inside. Got it loosened up totally. However the plug didn't come out since the socket doesn't grip and it's slightly downhill. Anyway when I pulled out the extension and socket again like a dummy I dropped the socket in there to try again. Whoops...since the plug was now totally loose the top of the plug is almost coming through the top of the socket. So no way to get the extension back on to grip the socket. What's a solution?

Big magnet?

I got it out. Pair of needle nose pliers grabbed ahold of the tip of the plug and pulled it and socket out.

This will make you kick yourself... Get some fule line... about 5/ 16 or 3/8" Cut it about 6" long.. You now only need to crack the tension on with the socket then use the hose, push it over the plug and turn, out the plug comes..

Great for use on hot taxi spark plugs. hahah

A magnet is the best idea.

Or maybe one of those wire-grips..

or needle-nose pliers.

Yes, that is exactly what I use for my Expedition, since the plugs are in the heads. Would work just as good on the DUC's.

Grendel, did you have your coffee before starting that project?

You mean how late I was up? I was starting my "replace my water pump seal" project. I did the oil drain and safety wire ok and then started the spark plugs because I wanted to check them to see if my coolant loss was actually a head gasket. Maybe could tell by the color. (so far so good it appears it's not head gasket). So my spark plug mishap delayed me a bit and I didn't get to draining the water.

I double check things and reread manuals before I go messing with anything on the bike unless it's adding gas or checking tire pressure. So that delays me alot. If I charged myself by the hour I would be in debt to myself forever.
