japanese vs. ducati
Im new to ducati's and have been thinking about getting one. I have never riden one but i have sat on a 848 and a 1198. I love the way they look. I now have an 09 r6s and you have to rev the guts out of it to be making power so i want something that makes more torque. The only thing that i am concerned about is i have heard there is alot of maintence with ducati's and it's expensive. Any info would be great in helping me decide.

There are maintenance things that you will face, but it depends on how well the bike is taken care of. Yes parts for these bikes are expensive, but there are quality places to find them at reasonable prices. I can tell you one thing for sure, the break in maintenance for a Ducati, from what I have compared, is sometimes cheaper than that of the Japanese bike dealers. As Isaid this is just from my expereince and observation. If you want a Duc, weigh out all the pros and cons of owning one. You will get a lot of helpful information here to aide your decision. Good luck man.

Most ducs will have a more useable and accessible torque curve than your r6; however, an 848 might lose a drag race to an r6 (in case you are concerned with that).
Maintenance can be expensive due to the fact that ducs require it more often and some parts can be more expensive. Don't skip maintenance because failure is so crazy expensive. But if you learn to do the maintenance yourself, it's much much cheaper.

Just bought my 1198S Corse. Couldn't be happier so far, only about 50 miles on it. The dealer I bought from had an 848 demo bike that I rode. It gave me the overall feel for the Ducati superbike in general. You should ask if it's possible to ride one. I intended to buy an 1198S all along, just test rode the 848. Even it has very good torque. But you'll love that Ducati sound over the jap bikes

How do you define "better?"

Different. In some ways better, in some ways not as good.

This post has TROLL written all over it! I would say ,however, that Ducatis come from the factory with an overall better component package in stock trim than a stock japanese bike. Special edition race replica jap bikes and corresponding Ducati bikes are more of an even playing field. Overall power is owned by the inline four. Being better has everything to do with what you are looking for in a motorcycle. I sure hope this did not help you in the least because I think you are probably a Troll looking to bash us on the r6 forum.
