Photos & review of Helibars & SpeedyMoto triple clamp on 996 / 998?
ok Now I am flirting with the idea of getting the best looking sportbike 996 or 998. But the last time I tried one for size it gave me a severe case of Neckitis!
I am 5'8" with a 30" in seam and fairly longish arms (34" sleeve length) for my frame - but the stock 996 I tried made me look tilt my head up so much that I though I was doing yoga.
I need to know the maximum height and rear position you can get can get out of a 9966/998. Helibars claim 2 1/2" taller and 2" backward with 1/2" wider and speedymoto claims 20mm increase in height - so am thinking both combined with a rearset to lower the pegs a little (not worried about groud clearance at all) will makw this a resonable mount for me. ok it will never be as comfy as my monster (that has a brutale like position).
Anyone with both and can share their review and photos? Thanks.

it doesn't quite work like that. you still get some benefit, but not what you're expecting. i have both on my 996.
you can't jack it up as high as you would like as the bars will hit the fairings when turning lock to lock. still better than stock, but you can't run the heli bars all the way up to the bottom of the triple. just too high and you'll pinch your fingers.
however, i would still do it again. i really like the heli bars and the SM triple looks great in black.

I love Heli Bars. Here's mine with a Cycle Cat triple clamp. I'm surprised you'd need different rearsets with a 30" inseam. Good luck and have fun. MH

Damn AK, that looks beautiful. Gimme it. I'm going that route after seeing your pic! Possible to get that center nut in red? Guess you could always powdercoat it.

I also am 5'8 with a 30" inseam. I put helis on my 998 and have done 600 mile days on it. The problem I had with the stock bars was that at an intersection I couldn't see traffic from the sides. Not a good thing...
As you have ridden the sbk's, once you do the heli install you'll soon adapt nicely to the bike. Yes, at full lock your hands will hit the mirrors. You'll soon figure out how to move your fingers to allow full lock for making turns in a parking lot etc.
When installing them be careful to slowly turn the bars back and forth to see where the best setting point is before you snug them down. Until you get it set, they can hit the gas tank or fairing. Also pay attention to cable routing so nothing gets pulled tight when turning the bars.
Take a look at Cycle Cat bars. They are more expensive, but have more adjustability and are darn pretty.

Synergy, Thanks very much for the pics. Love your black and black set up - great.. so like deputydog95 says they do not add up to net full increase as you will hit the fairing, tank etc.. but if I am looking to get height, reach would you both recommend the helibar+speedymoto or just helibar?

i'd do both, just because the triple looks cool. if you're looking for just comfort then don't waste your money on the triple. it really doesn't offer much when used with the heli's.

I have not put my upper fairing and reservoirs on yet. (also with my radials I am mounting the res's in a different location than stock) so I cant tell you at what height they will rub. I had the Helis on my stock triple/stock clutch and brake lever and it made a huge difference. I'm 6'4", 34" inseem and run stock rear sets and the bike wasn't the most comfortable but 100 times more comfortable than a stock 749. My usual ride is to the Malibu canyons, roundtrip I will put 150 to 200 miles in an afternoon. My wrists never hurt, though, my butt may get numb while going through freeway traffic.
If you just want comfort go with the Heli's first and see how it works out for ya. You wont be dissappointed. I didnt add the Speedy triple to get more bar height, I added it since their products are pieces of functional art. I have all of their products on my 748.
