Ebay fairings Yo

When I bought my bike it was pristine, here I am a couple years and thousands of miles later and a beaut she still is. However, riding daily to work for a couple years did take a bit of a toll on my fairings and I wanted to minimize any further blemishes.

So..... 500ish bucks later and a couple beers deep, my solution, a change of pace:

I bought a set of fairings off ebay ( GASP ! ), 6 working days later they're at my door. ok, so good so far.

Everythngs packed very well and arrives as it should. Paint quality looks good ( to me ) and I'm still pleased. You reuse all stock hardware Which is kinda a PIA in my opinion but really no biggie to rebuild the stock set back up. The fairings are thicker than I thought from reading around, I'll mic em up on Mon and post if I remember.

So, disasemble all the stock parts and transfer hardware and reassemble. Pretty good fittement with the exception of the tail ( I'll be snapping some better pics ) , but acceptable ( again to me ). So, I figure that's just the easy part, this shits actually gotta mount on the bike !

Start with the tail ( which I hate doing anyways ) and it takes a minute to get everything mounted up. Enlarger a couple holes with the Dremel, but all in all not too bad.

put a windscreen on the new nose, and bolted it up, took about 5 mins, easy peasy. Mirrors, a PIA in general but no issues.

Sides went on in 5 mins, seems to fit great, even at the bottom. I did have to dremel out the holes in the bottom to press the rubber well nut thingy in but it works as well as stock.

Kit came with a new cowl, have to enlarge the bottom hole a bit, tomorrow.

So....that's my story. I have to say I'm happy. If I want to put my stock kit on, about an 1.5 hr job, without the tail...faster. kit fit way better than the horror stories I read.

Yeah, I know it's a knock off...the xerox isnt done right and theres probably something spelled wrong. but if a pebble decides to kiss my nose fairing...whatevs yo some dope decides to back into it in my work lot...not going to be nearly as expensive. I'm jusifying, I know.

I'll put some more pics up with a decent cam in the next couple day's.

That looks awesome. The XEROX paint scheme looks great on the 999. In black that looks really sharp. Nicely done. Thanks for the fitment report, at some point I will be replacing my 999s bodywork so I am interested in which ebayer you used as that kit looks nice.

it one of the chinese kits, correct? ducati ones seem to fit better than the others. A newer GSX-R kit has like 20-ish different pieces... The ducati kits only have 6-7 parts.

my fairing fopa's

Well I got my bike last summer with a full set of cheapo Team Alice (malboro) fairings. I am in the process of swaping them all out for carbon fiber pieces.
The tail peice was cracking and I replaced it with in a few weeks of owning the bike.

Well today I cranked off a few 140 mph passes on my local street circut.
First time since I did alot of mods ( clutch upgrades glalore, new custom pipes, power commander etc..) call it my first REAL ride since I am more comfortable on it now.
When I stopped for a complete inspection of the bike, I saw TONS of stress cracks, fractures and seperations of the side fairings (cheap chineese plastics).
Good thing I have enroute some new carbon upper and lower sides.
I am now embarrassed to ride my lovely 999 in public in this state of disrepair.
Poor girl has been a trooper.
Beware of the crummy workmanship of the ABS plastic stuff.

Hhhhhmmmmmm. Gotta say I think it looks great! Have you had any issues similar to what Sargeott posted? I'd like to get another set of fairing for my Matrix to save wear and damage to the originals.

Not yet at least.

From what I saw during the assembly I don't envision being a big issue.

I did'nt have to force any of the panels to the point of putting large amounts of stress loaded onto the weak areas around the holes.

I've put a couple hundred miles on the bike and the heat cycles that are associated and they look identical to when I put them on.

And as I mentioned, I thought the quality of the panels was very good for the price point.

Most of the stories I read previously to buying were similiar to sargeott's, I figured I'd spend whatever time I had to fit it right the first time, making sure holes were where they needed to be and everything would bolt on relitively smoothely, It ended up being easier than I expected to get to that point.

So, take it for what it is.
