What is this part?

Anyhow.. I'd recently had my 749 service. And finally got it back after 2.5months. But somehow when I took the side fairings off, I noticed something might be missing. But I couldn't figure out what, since the bike rides fine.

While surfing the gallery section, I'd noticed this picture. Can someone tell me what this rectangular part is? That's the part I'd seem on my bike prior to bringing it to the shop for service. Now I don't see it in it's location, so tomorrow I'll take a closer look.

Anyhow, what is this part? And what impact does it have if it's removed? Because I was able to ride home from the shop, and didn't noticed anything wrong. If I didn't remove my fairings, I wouldn't even notice it was missing

ditto - that is your emissions evap canister. You do not need it to run the bike, but the smaller of the hoses going into it must be VERY well sealed. Strange that they would take it off and not say anything...

From what I've seen on some of the Duc forums, blurry...it seems to be a very common practice at a bunch of dealerships to remove the evap canister at the first service, with or without, owner's knowledge.

Heck, I wouldn't mind if they did it if they at least told me first. As it stand, I'm just about due for my 600 mile first service. The evap canister will be coming out this weekend.
