I'm fairly certain we'll have a NEW superbike at the end of this year, but there is no data to indicate a new V4 for 2011 besides some recent patent filings and rumors.
I think we'll see a V4 soon, but not this year for a 2011 model year.

Ducati has no choice...it's in the works. W/ the frame patents they can now move quickly and get a V4 together for either the 2011 or 2012 WSBK season.
I would venture a guess that the Aprillia SBK team has lead them to quicken the pace for a new superbike configuration......poor mans Desmosedici! Why not, it's not a secret....the V4 is there, all they have to do determine where they can cut costs to mass produce it and keep it competitively priced.

I, for one, am absolutely perfectly happy with the sound, power, and torque of my Italian V-twin. I'm glad I bought this over the RSV4.

That is a twin pictured.
Ducati doesn't want to lose the majority of it's customers. They are a Twin's company. Don't get too excited about a V4 superbike. Very doubtfull that will happen.
Best realistic guess from a technical view is the twin will eventually get gear drive cams, much like the 'cedici, new smaller cases and demensions eliminating the lay shaft. Possibly a cart type transmission. That stuff makes sense and would allow for significant performance increases.
