big valve heads...
Just got some 1998 916 heads from webman for my 853 that is being put together and I measured the valves with a surprise. Are the 916 valves really 33 intake and 31mm exhaust? I thought it was more like 30/31. If so I am happy and with the 916 throttle bodies, 50mm pipes and the pc3... I should Hit my goal! Any info is much appreciated.
Thanks
Blake

The stock 916 is pretty dam small 33/29.
The factory bikes were 37/31 in the 916 and 39/32 in the 996
I don't see any heads that were 33/31, so thats something your mechanic must have come up with on his own.

ok
Your funny Tye,
Not all of us have mechanics! Jk. Actually they are the big valve 916 heads and I was just confirming the the measurements I took. They were 33.75mm intake exactly and and 31.10 exhaust. I am just making sure this is correct as I thought they were different.

Way to go Tye, you know all the specs. Regardless of what the guy measures.

Na, don't give me credit, I've got a book right here on my shelf which has ALL the desmoquattro specs in it.
You'd be amazed at how many renditions Ducati made to that head.
The 748R had the largest valves in the street production desmoquattro run, which is interesting.

so... what is the closest measurement you have in your little book... am I measuring wrong? Valve head distance on the chamber side right?

33/29 is what those valves "should" be. So the exhausts are 31's instead of 29's...
I just stick a set of calipers on the valve itself. I'm about to fall a sleep, or I'd go down stairs, grab my calipers and some valves and measure a few for ya ( have stock 916 heads in my garage right now! I actually don't do much valve measuring, so I don't know how far off Ducati's specs are vs the manufacturer who builds the valves.

Tye is correct, and when he says "factory", that refers to the race bikes.
Here is a photo of a set of 34/30mm heads--not from an actual 916SP, but the same size used on the SP's. Just measure as seen here:

Oversized valves (yay)
35/30 if I recall...
Dunno what your goal is, but if it's more smiles per mile, the 853 will deliver.
